The book went on sale December 28, 2007, with a February 2008 cover date, at the moment the series underwent a significant creative transition: founding writer Dan Slott brought in Christos N. Gage as co-writer beginning with this arc, a handoff that proved seamless enough for contemporary reviewers to note the join was nearly invisible. Stefano Caselli, who had drawn every issue since the launch, continued on pencils and inks, with Daniele Rudoni on colors and Tom Brevoort and Molly Lazer editing. Notably, the series itself had been originally solicited as a six-issue limited series before Marvel upgraded it to an ongoing prior to the first issue's publication.
