Aventura #499

Aug 1967 · Editorial Novaro · 1.00 MXP

In Aventura #499 (1967), Curly and Pete lead their mares to the summer range with Trigger in tow, seeking shelter in the ghost town once home to their old friend, the hermit prospector Dan. To their surprise, the town has come back to life—revived by a gold mine stock that’s got Dan grinning from ear to ear. But when the pair suspect the company behind the boom is run by swindlers who’ve faked the gold, they’re framed and forced to flee with their herd. As they push on toward the summer range, they discover something real in a forgotten wash—gold that’s not just a rumor. Written by Gaylord Du Bois, this issue blends frontier grit with a quiet mystery, all under a cover by an unknown artist.

Curly and Pete drive the mares to the summer range, with Trigger. To bunk for the night, they head for the ghost town where their old pal the hermit, prospector Dan, lives. It is a ghost town no more. Gold mine stock has revived the town, to Dan's delight. Curly and Pete smell a rat: the stock company is run by swindlers who salted the mines. In an attempt to get Curly and Pete's mares, the swindlers frame Curly and Pete, who escape town with their herd, and find real gold in the dried-out wash along the way to the summer range.
