Aya de Yopougon #2
The second volume of Marguerite Abouet and Clément Oubrerie's celebrated series brings more of the vivid street life of Yopougon, Ivory Coast, right to your hands. Oubrerie's cover places a young woman carrying a child on her back at the center of a sun-drenched neighborhood scene, her bold orange wrap and yellow top catching the eye while a skeptical older man with a camera observes from the side and everyday passersby fill the dusty street behind her. The tagline promises "the adventures of three young friends in Ivory Coast," and this warm, richly drawn 2012 Brazilian edition from L&PM Editores is a wonderful entry point into one of the most humanly engaging comics series to come out of Franco-African storytelling.
