Bébête #[nn]

Simon Bossé's *Bébête* from L'Oie de Cravan presents a wonderfully unsettling cover: a gangly, olive-green insect creature with enormous bulging eyes crouches over bold yellow-and-black lettering, its long proboscis curling downward with an almost contemplative air. The scratchy, hand-drawn style gives the whole image a raw, underground-comics charm that feels both playfully grotesque and oddly endearing. If you have a taste for quirky Francophone indie comics with a distinctly weird personality, this 2009 release deserves a spot on your shelf.
