Mike Mignola's cover for this 2014 Dark Horse collection sets an appropriately grim tone: a skeletal rider atop a skull-faced horse looms above a winged demonic figure, both rendered against a stark black background dusted with falling snow and a pale blue moon — a scene that feels genuinely foreboding. The bright slash of red bleeding downward from the demon's grasp gives the otherwise dark composition a vivid jolt of menace. With writing from Mignola and John Arcudi, art by Laurence Campbell, and colors by Dave Stewart, *B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: A Cold Day in Hell* delivers the brooding supernatural atmosphere this series does so well.
