Bang-Up Comics #2

Mar 1942 · Progressive Publishers · 0.10 USD

In the rain-slicked streets of 1942, college student Mary takes a quiet drive home—until a drunken old man, fleeing from the Loather Home, warns her of six fatal accidents there. Drawn in by his desperate plea, she dons her secret identity as Lady Fairplay, launching a mystery that uncovers a sinister scheme behind the deaths. Penciled and inked by Jack Ryan, with a moody, rain-drenched cover by Leonard Dworkins, this Bang-Up Comics #2 is a standout in the early superhero genre.

Mary is out for a drive after classes were over when it starts to rain. As she puts up the convertible top on her car, she sees an old man reeking of alcohol who says that he has escaped from a nearby home run by the Loathers. When he tells her that there have been six mysterious deaths at the home due to various accidents, Mary decides that Lady Fairplay should look into the matter, discovering that the Loather's were arranging accidents on their clients to collect their insurance.
