“Trois effarants souhaits”

In "Trois effarants souhaits," Bernard Baily's stark artwork brings to life a surreal tale of obedience and deception, where men build a cannon under the command of a mysterious moon-dweller—only to discover his true nature as a mole-man beneath the surface. Jay McArdle's cover captures the eerie tension of the moment, as the earth itself becomes both prison and weapon.

Men are compelled to create a cannon for a being claiming to be a moon-dweller, supposedly to send him back to the moon, but the moon-dweller is really a mole-man and the cannon is to send him back into the Earth. Once accomplished the men seal the hole in the ground so he can't return.
