Billy the Kid crosses paths with the Duchess de Montoya y Marón when he joins Carlos Rubio's outlaw gang in a raid on her hacienda to steal a fortune in gold ingots hidden there. But things get complicated when Billy finds himself torn between his loyalty to the bandits and his growing interest in the spirited Spanish noblewoman, forcing him to make a dangerous choice that puts him at odds with his fellow outlaws.
Shanghaied aboard a cattle-boat and dumped into San Francisco Bay, Billy the Kid washes up on the waterfront and meets Harlow Sholty, a wealthy tycoon victimized by the ruthless gang leader Shev McGraw—known as the Frisco Fanner. When McGraw's crew nearly kills Billy, the outlaw gunslinger decides to take on the operation that's been preying on the city's sailors and visitors, eventually working with the local police to bring the Fanner's reign of terror to an end.
When Carr Tallman frames Billy the Kid for a crime he didn't commit, Sheriff Garrett is forced to bring the young outlaw in for trial—but Tallman has no intention of letting the law take its course. As Tallman leads a lynch mob to seize Billy from the sheriff's custody, Billy must fight his way free and turn the tables on the man who set the trap, all while keeping the lawman he respects out of harm's way.
