The main story, "Billy the Kid," follows Billy when a thousand-dollar contract is placed on his head by railroad interests seeking to stop his use of guns. Billy flees into Arizona with Mexican gunslinger Sarguerra and discovers that McCord, a prize killer, has been hired to hunt him down with a list of names including Gus Kupner. Billy learns that McCord paid Kupner cash to betray him, but when the shooting starts, McCord makes a fatal error trying to buy Billy's gun, leading to his downfall. The story demonstrates that despite his outlaw status, Billy proves more resourceful and ultimately survives the assassination plot against him.
