Billy discovers Cockrell's scheme and confronts him, resulting in a shootout where Billy is wounded but manages to overcome Cockrell. After Billy interrogates the dying outlaw, he learns that Cockrell and his gang had planned to rob an express office by detonating dynamite near the road and ambushing the stage, but their plot is ultimately foiled through Billy's intervention.
When Billy the Kid turns away a determined young boy seeking to ride with him, the rejected youth attempts to prove himself—only to fall victim to a ruthless killer known as Death, a masked gunman leaving a trail of corpses northward across the territory. Now Billy, haunted by the boy's dying words, teams up with Federal Marshal Jim Maxwell to track Death among three suspects traveling the same northward route: the fast-drawing gambler Art Diamond, the wolf-poisoner Luke Gant, and the medicine-selling Doc Cockrell. As Billy closes in on his quarry, he'll discover that unmasking Death means navigating a web of alibis and confrontations that test even his legendary draw.
After a stagecoach is blown to pieces by dynamite in a brutal holdup, Billy the Kid is the sole survivor and teams up with the local sheriff to track down the killers. With only a cigarette stamp as a clue, Billy narrows his search in Ponca City, but the outlaws—aware of his presence—set a deadly trap to silence him before he can identify them. It's a race against time as Billy closes in on the culprits and the violence escalates into a showdown.
