Billy West confronts the evil Racon Grubb and the Blue Sage in a scheme involving trapped gold in a dangerous canyon, where an ornery polecat becomes the key to exposing the villains' plot. Meanwhile, Buck Ranger falls into an ambush orchestrated by the criminal Bass Murdock, who has hidden $6,000 in cattle money and plans to use a specially marked cigar to identify those involved in the scheme. In a separate story, Wilbur becomes entangled with the cunning Cramps gang when he attempts to help a woman named Rhoda, ultimately leading to a twist where Jeff Turner's papers are stolen and the situation spirals into chaos involving a train robbery and a $5,000 reward.
