Bomb Queen V: The Divine Comedy #5

The penultimate chapter of The Divine Comedy arc arrives with a cover that brilliantly captures Bomb Queen's gleeful tonal whiplash: a woman in a pink dress looks up in wide-eyed alarm from what was clearly a peaceful picnic — complete with stuffed animals, a basket, and a cat — while something very messy has just happened to the enormous bomb-shaped airship looming overhead, with blood spattering down from above. A towering rocket and a "Welcome to Littleville" sign in the background complete this cheerfully surreal suburban tableau. Shadowline and Image delivered a series that never stopped finding new ways to mix the mundane with the mayhem, and this 2009 issue makes that contrast look effortless.
