Valiant's 2016 deluxe hardcover collects the full *Book of Death* saga, and the cover — rendered by Paolo Rivera — says everything about the stakes: a skeletal, hooded figure looms enormous over the entire Valiant universe, its grinning skull dominating the top of the image while dozens of heroes and civilians tumble and struggle in a chaotic pile below, bathed in fire and shadow. Among the fallen you can spot armored figures, pink-haired brawlers, blue-and-gold-clad warriors, and white-suited combatants — virtually the whole roster brought to its knees. Robert Venditti's story, brought to life by artists Robert Gill and Doug Braithwaite with colors by David Baron and Brian Reber, promises the kind of universe-shaking crossover that earned *Valiant* recognition as one of the best comics of 2015.
