Boys' and Girls' March of Comics #230
In "The Missing Boy," a sudden storm strands the Thompson family just as two-year-old Jamie vanishes from his home. With the community on edge, the Ranger leads a search that takes a surprising turn when Lassie discovers the child safe in a badger hole. The clues point to a grieving sow who, driven by instinct after losing her mate and cubs to a trapper, brought Jamie to her den to shield him from the storm. Written by Gaylord Du Bois, this heartfelt tale of instinct and compassion unfolds with quiet power, underscored by the gentle artistry of the interior and a striking cover by the artist credited.

Just before the big storm, the Thompsons head home from their visit at the Martins. Next day two year old Jamie is reported missing since just before the storm. The Ranger directs the search. Lassie sniffs out a badger hole holding Jamie. They catch the badger, a sow, with only two claws on her left front foot, indicating she recently escaped a trap. An illegal trapper was recently caught with a dead male, her mate. Her cubs died while she was trapped. Maternal instinct led her to drag Jamie to safety from the storm, into her den. Jamie is dry and well, and the sow is set free to begin anew.
