Brenda #31
In "The Jewels of Death," science student Nathan Hood's accidental discovery of a diamond-making formula sets off a deadly chain of events. When the resulting gem is found by the lab's janitor, Timothy Clarke, his sudden death with a bullet in his head raises alarms—especially when Brenda stumbles upon the stone near his body. With the diamond now in her hands, she seeks verification from wealthy expert Karl Sivens, who offers her a staggering sum, though she refuses to sell. The story, illustrated by Larry Horak and featuring a cover by Yaroslav Horak, unfolds with a quiet dread that lingers long after the final page.

Science student Nathan Hood, working on an experiment, discovers a formula that creates diamonds. In his excitement he drops the diamond as he leaves the lab, and it's found by the old janitor, Timothy Clarke. Clarke decides to keep it for himself but is found two days later with a bullet in his head. Once again the diamond is found, near Clarke's dead body, only this time by Brenda, and she takes the jewel to the wealthy diamond expert Karl Sivens for verification. Sivens offers her two hundred thousand dollars for it on the spot, but Brenda tells him it's not hers to sell.
