Brides in Love #41
In "You Can't Buy Love," Betty Wilson’s quiet routine of Friday movie dates with Fred takes a surreal turn when a wealthy stranger—dashing and apologetic—splashes her in the street, sparking a fleeting fantasy of romance. But the truth behind the glamorous façade is far stranger than she imagined, testing her dreams and her loyalty in ways she never expected. Written by Joe Gill and illustrated by Sal Gentile with inks by Dick Giordano, this 1964 Charlton gem features a striking cover by Pat Masulli, Dick Giordano, and Vince Colletta.

Betty Wilson goes to the movie every Friday with Fred, a boy from the building next door in her tenement district. But she dreams of a handsome millionaire sweeping her off her feet and leading her down the aisle. One day while standing at the curb, an expensive car drives by and splashes mud over her coat and dress. When the car stops, the passenger who apologizes seems to be the man of her dreams, rich and handsome. But it turns out he is really just an escapee from the sanitarium who uses his charm to keep himself in dollars whenever he runs away. Betty gladly goes back to Fred.
