Bugs Bunny #134
In "Hare-Brained Inventor," Bugs Bunny finds himself unexpectedly displaced from his city lot rabbit hole—now the site of a new high-rise—prompting a retreat to the suburbs. There, he stumbles into a wacky inventor’s “Chance Site,” a scattered collection of random objects meant to test his theory of inventions-by-chance. With Phil De Lara handling art and inks, and Tony Strobl and John Liggera bringing the cover to life, this 1971 Western Publishing issue blends classic slapstick with inventive chaos.

A shower of concrete comes pouring down Bugs’ vacant city lot rabbit hole, followed by a steel girder. To his dismay, Bugs finds that he is squatting on the site of what is to be a new high-rise apartment building. Rather than fight the construction crew, as he did in animation, he leaves for more suburban climes. Meanwhile, a wacky inventor, who believes in “…inventions-by-chance – throw[ing] stuff together and see what develops”, has set up several “Chance Sites” of random objects scattered about outdoors to test his theories. What happens when Bugs moves into one of those “Chance Sites”?
