Captain Britain and the Mighty Defenders #1

History

The series was conceived as a deliberate mashup of two recently concluded Marvel titles — Captain Britain and MI:13 and The Mighty Avengers — making Al Ewing, who had written The Mighty Avengers and previously used Faiza Hussain as Captain Britain in an Age of Ultron tie-in issue (Avengers Assemble #15AU), the natural choice to write it. Ewing has said his motivation was simply to give Faiza-Cap another turn in the spotlight. Marvel paired him with Alan Davis, one of the most acclaimed artists associated with the Captain Britain legacy, whose inks were provided by long-time collaborator Mark Farmer. The two-issue limited series was published under Marvel's Warzones! imprint as part of the line-wide Secret Wars 2015 event, with a standard cover by Davis/Farmer and a variant cover by Frazer Irving; it was released on July 15, 2015 and subsequently collected in a trade paperback edition of Captain America and the Mighty Avengers.

• Issue #1's story title is 'Theirs Is a Land with a Wall Around It…' — the first half of a lyric from Billy Bragg's song 'Between the Wars,' completed by issue #2's title.
• Both issues were reprinted twice each according to the Marvel Database, and the complete two-issue run was collected in the Captain America and the Mighty Avengers trade paperback.
