Captain Midnight #8
Captain Midnight and his sidekick Dink undertake a dangerous bombing mission against Nazi convoy ships carrying vital war materials, testing a new destroyer escort equipped with advanced weapons systems. When enemy aircraft attack during the operation, Red must pilot the damaged bomber through intense anti-aircraft fire and manage a crippled engine to complete the bombing run. In a parallel subplot, a female scientist in Captain Midnight's laboratory discovers that a new detector device has gone missing, with suspicions falling on Captain Albright, though the scientist expresses reluctance to believe he would betray them to the enemy.
Captain Midnight springs into action when a mysterious radio beam begins killing prominent speakers across the nation, and his investigation into the "Sky-Death" leads him to a secret Nazi operation hiding in plain sight. As he pursues the source of the deadly transmissions, Captain Albright uncovers a shocking betrayal from within his own committee—and finds himself trapped in the heart of the enemy's American base. With his friends captured alongside him, Captain Midnight must rely on his wits and ingenuity to expose the conspiracy and stop the fiendish attack before it strikes again.
Captain Albright's latest marvel—a flying torpedo that can be remotely guided to any target on Earth—is put to the test in the Nevada desert, but when his ace mechanic Icky gets caught on the device during launch, the invention rockets skyward with him aboard. The sinister spy known as the Viper, who's long hunted Albright's secrets, spots the flying torpedo from his hovering plane and hatches a ruthless scheme to seize the weapons and turn them against America. Captain Midnight must outwit the Viper and his operatives while racing to stop the armed torpedoes before they reach their targets.
When Captain Albright's experimental plane detector fails its crucial Army test, he heads to the remote island of Wana-Loa for rest—only to find himself caught between a vengeful Baron Von Togo, who's plotting something sinister on the dormant volcano Rataku, and a native uprising that threatens all the white men on the island. As Captain Midnight, Albright must uncover what Von Togo is really after before the volcano—and the enemy's plans—destroy everything in their path.
Captain Midnight helps the Russians perfect a revolutionary rocket-launching system for fighter planes, but when Nazi saboteurs capture the advance base and force him to install the rockets on their aircraft, he and his aide Chuck execute a daring double-cross that turns the tables spectacularly. With the Russians closing in and the Nazis expecting an easy aerial victory, Captain Albright's quick thinking and ingenuity transform what looks like a betrayal into a brilliantly orchestrated trap that protects the secret weapon and defeats the enemy force.
