Carl Barks Library of Walt Disney's Donald Duck Adventures in Color #13
Volume 13 of Gladstone's Carl Barks Library brings more of Carl Barks' Donald Duck Adventures in full color, with Scott Rockwell's coloring giving the artwork a vibrant new life. The cover — penciled and inked by Barks himself — captures a wonderfully chaotic cliff-scaling scene: Donald clings to the rocky face at the top, rope in hand, while a heavily burdened pack animal struggles up the steep slope below, and Huey, Dewey, and Louie scramble along at the bottom, all of them looking thoroughly exhausted and just a little panicked. It's a perfect snapshot of the Duck family's knack for biting off more than they can chew, and with "Land of the Totem Poles" collected inside, this 1995 Gladstone volume is a thoroughly satisfying read.
