Une jeune bonne pleine de vivacité conquiert le cœur du personnel du domaine de Trésiliam à l'exception de son superviseur. Malgré les avertissements de sa mère, Frank commence à devenir obsédé par la nouvelle servante même lorsqu'il commence à soupçonner qu'elle cache un secret. Lorsque le père de Frank revient d'un voyage en France, il raconte comment les Français recherchent un gang de voleurs de bijoux dirigé par une jeune Américaine.
