Ersel's cover for this second volume of the French Celtic adventure series Claymore sets an immediately arresting mood: a red-haired young woman in a flowing grey dress stands sword in hand amid a desolate, golden-hued landscape of gnarled trees, surrounded on all sides by prowling wolves. The subtitle Comme des Loups Affamés — "Like Hungry Wolves" — couldn't be more aptly illustrated, with the pack closing in yet the woman holding her ground with quiet, steely composure. Ruellan and Ersel have crafted something genuinely atmospheric here, blending a fairytale aesthetic with real tension for this 2000 Glénat release.
