Coley #[2]
In "BUS RIDE," roller-skating teen Coley makes an unexpected connection during a casual afternoon outing, leading to an invitation from a stranger and his girlfriend, Jessica. As the evening unfolds, Coley finds himself drawn into a situation where the line between observation and involvement begins to blur—Jessica, in particular, has her own intentions, and her thoughts make it clear she’s not just watching anymore. Written and drawn entirely by John Blackburn under his pseudonym Jay Blackburn, this 1989 issue features bold, expressive artwork and a quiet, unsettling tension that builds with every page. The cover, also by Blackburn, captures the moment with a striking, off-kilter composition.

While out roller skating, Coley puts on a show for some passersby. One of them invites him back to his place, along with his girlfriend Jessica, who can "watch". Coley agrees, he says, because he senses he and Jessica are going to become "good friends". Jessica does more than just watch, and decides she wants Coley, thinking, "...and I'm gonna get him!"
