In Comics on Parade #10 (1944), the mischievous duo Hans and Fritz take matters into their own hands when their family is left stranded and vulnerable to the scheming Flotsam and Jetsam. With a legendary monster named Manny the Monster on their side—despite his fearsome look—and a clever octopus ally in Oliver, they plot a daring rescue. The story, written and illustrated by Rudolph Dirks, blends whimsy and adventure as the boys navigate underwater peril and uncover a hidden treasure, all before setting off in a commandeered submarine. With the men of the family missing, and so finding themselves at the mercy of nefarious seamen Flotsam and Jetsam, Hans and Fritz conspire to seek out legendary Manny the Monster and enlist his aid in effecting a rescue. Manny, as it turns out, is only monstrous in appearance and is only too happy to help, calling on his pal Oliver the Octopus to dispense with the bad guys. This leaves the family free to claim the treasure left in Manny's lair by Bloodshot's father, and they head for home in their commandeered submarine, dreaming of how to spend their newfound riches.
