Comics Review #6
"Roman in the Gloaming.." is a strikingly unusual comic from 1984, presented as a mock editorial letter from the Register and Tribune Syndicate announcing a shift in strip dimensions—down to 38.6 picas, or roughly 6.4 inches wide. The story, lettered in typeset, unfolds entirely through this single, deadpan notice, its dry tone and precise formatting creating an odd, almost surreal narrative. The cover, by Stan Lynde in both pencils and inks, captures the mood with a stark, stylized image that complements the issue’s minimalist approach.

Letter from the Register and Tribune Syndicate announces that effective July 2, 1984 their strips will be reduced in width from 43 picas to 38.6 picas. (A pica is 1/6 inch.) The editor indicates that enlarging these strips for publication will result in extra expense and poorer quality.
