“Eyes in the Night”

"Eyes in the Night" is a chilling tale from Creepy Worlds #235 (1986), a haunting story illustrated with moody precision by Gene Colan, whose inks deepen the shadows of a man haunted by a past accident. When a truck driver finds his vehicle inexplicably parking in front of a cemetery each day, he’s driven to confess—only to learn the engine’s origin may explain the eerie repetition. The cover, by Harry Anderson, captures the story’s oppressive atmosphere with a stark, unsettling image.

A driver feels guilty for not stopping to help a man he hits and so each successive day the truck he drives parks itself in front of a cemetery. He confesses to the police and the mechanics who check his truck inform him that the engine comes from a hearse so it was merely force of habit that the truck went to the cemetery every day.
