Cry Havoc #5

The fifth chapter of Simon Spurrier and Ryan Kelly's dark fantasy series announces itself with a cover that is genuinely hard to look away from — a massive, grotesque wolf-like creature rendered in deep magentas and purples, its decayed, layered maw open wide as writhing organic tendrils curl around it. The monochromatic palette gives the image a fever-dream intensity that feels wholly its own. If this issue's cover is any measure, Cry Havoc remains one of Image's most viscerally striking series of 2016.
