Cyberforce #1
Cyberforce #1 (October 1992) is the opening chapter of the founding title of Marc Silvestri's Top Cow Productions imprint, making it one of the six original launch titles of Image Comics and a foundational document of the creator-owned revolution of the early 1990s. It delivers the first appearances of the entire Cyberforce team — Stryker, Cyblade, Ripclaw, Heatwave, and Impact — as well as the super-speedster Velocity (Carin Taylor), the villain organization Cyberdata, and a gallery of supporting and antagonist characters who would anchor the Top Cow universe for years. Beyond its roster of debuts, the issue carries immediate cross-publisher significance: a background cameo by WildC.A.T.s' Lord Emp (Emp of Wildcats) ties the opening scene directly to Jim Lee's concurrent WildC.A.T.s #1, cementing the shared-universe ambitions Image held from its very first month. The series' success gave Silvestri the platform to eventually launch Witchblade and The Darkness, making this issue the commercial and creative seed of Top Cow's most enduring properties.

Marc Silvestri came to Cyberforce directly off a celebrated multi-year run pencilling Uncanny X-Men (1987–1990) and then Wolverine for Marvel, and he was one of the seven founding artists of Image Comics in 1992. The mini-series was initially published through Homage Studios, the studio Silvestri co-operated with Jim Lee, before Silvestri broke off to form Top Cow Productions — meaning the title page of Cyberforce #1 carries Image/Malibu Comics co-publishing indicia while the imprint name was still in flux. The script was written by Silvestri's brother Eric Silvestri, with Marc handling art, and both brothers framed the project as a deliberate mini-series test: Marc later said they structured their early Image releases as limited series because they were unsure how the market would respond to their original characters. The strong sales validated the gamble, and a 35-issue ongoing series followed within a year; by then the brand had fully migrated under the Top Cow Productions banner.
