Dörfler #[nn]

Jeremy Baum's Dörfler announces itself with a cover that's hard to look away from — a pale, dark-haired warrior woman dominates the frame, a braided sword hilt visible over her shoulder and a gloved hand reaching toward the viewer against a hypnotic swirl of black-and-blue spirals and geometric forms. Baum's linework, rendered entirely by his own hand from pencils to inks, has an obsessive, almost hallucinatory quality that feels genuinely unlike anything else on the Fantagraphics shelf in 2015. If you're drawn to art-forward comics with a dark, mysterious atmosphere, this one earns a serious look.
