☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThe issue contains two stories: "Jolly Jim Dandy," in which a young frontiersman encounters Native Americans who are after him, ducks being hunted, and a bear on the trail, ultimately discovering that the man he believed was an enemy forest runner was actually Dan'l Boone himself. A second story follows involving thieves who steal Dan'l Boone's skins, prompting him to pursue them to their settlement hideout, where he must learn their ways to recover his stolen goods and deal with the criminals threatening the frontier.
Dan'l Boone crosses paths with Dr. Mortell, a traveling medicine man and entertainer fleeing a Shawnee attack, and agrees to guide him to safety—unaware that Mortell is secretly working with the raiders to exploit the frontier settlements. When Mortell returns to Boone's Borough to lure the able-bodied men away from the stockade walls with his magic show, Boone's keen frontier instincts expose the conspiracy, and he turns the tables to protect the settlement and bring the traitor to justice.
When a flatboat captain called Big Mike Trent secretly betrays his crew to Shawnee warriors in exchange for diamonds, Dan'l Boone discovers the treachery firsthand—and decides the double-dealing river pilot needs to answer for his crimes. Trapped with the captured rivermen at Chillicothe, Boone hatches a bold escape using sassafras root tea, then tracks Big Mike back to the Ohio to expose his scheme before he can strike again. What unfolds is a raw frontier clash between a cunning backwoodsman and a bully whose strength has made him untouchable—until now.
Dan'l Boone tracks a band of forest runners to their hideout after they raid old Josiah Bent's cache of pelts, but discovers the thieves have laid a trap of their own—one that forces him and the trapper to think fast when fire drives them toward waiting rifles. With quick wits and an unexpected use for Josiah's hoarded skins, Boone turns the tables on the would-be ambushers in this 1955 frontier showdown.
