About this Issue

Issue #4 is the narrative and thematic core of Erica Schultz's five-part Red Band miniseries — the chapter in which Elektra Natchios, operating as Daredevil, physically descends into Hell to confront the murderous Muse and faces Helektra, a demonic manifestation of her own worst impulses first introduced the prior issue. This literalization of Elektra's long-running internal conflict — a former assassin fighting to honor a no-kill code — gives the issue unusual psychological weight within the broader 2020s Elektra-as-Daredevil editorial era. The issue also marks a meaningful pairing of Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze) with the Elektra incarnation of Daredevil, a team-up without significant precedent in Hell's Kitchen storytelling, and arrives in direct conjunction with the character's MCU debut in the 2025 Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, ensuring Muse's expanded mythology reaches readers at a moment of peak cultural visibility.

History

Daredevil: Unleash Hell – Red Band is the third consecutive Elektra-centric Daredevil miniseries written by Erica Schultz, following Daredevil: Gang War and Daredevil: Woman Without Fear, making her the primary architect of Elektra's sustained run under the Daredevil mantle in the early 2020s. The Red Band imprint — Marvel's adults-only, polybagged format — gave Schultz and her art team of Valentina Pinti and José Luís explicit-content latitude that the standard line could not offer, though critics were divided on whether the book fully exploited that freedom. Lauren Amaro edited the series under Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, and the April 2025 release of issue #4 coincided almost exactly with Muse's live-action debut in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, a clear example of Marvel's coordinated publishing and streaming timelines.

  • Helektra — a demonic doppelgänger of Elektra created by Muse to corrupt her — made her first appearance in issue #3 and serves as the main antagonist confronting Elektra in this issue's hellish setting.
  • The second Muse (Morgan Whittier, a new character created by Schultz and Pinti) made her debut in Daredevil: Unleash Hell – Red Band #1 (January 2025); the original Muse was created by Charles Soule and Ron Garney in Daredevil vol. 5 #11 (2016).
  • Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze, possessed by Zarathos) is a fully active supporting character in the main story, while Matt Murdock, Bullseye, Wolverine (Laura Kinney), and Spider-Man (Miles Morales) appear only in recap-page panels.
  • The central dramatic conflict of the issue is Elektra's descent into literal Hell to stop Muse, where she must resist merging with Helektra — an entity that would amplify her power at the cost of unleashing her darkest, most violent self.
  • Published under Marvel's 'Red Band' polybagged adults-only imprint, which carries an explicit-content (Parental Advisory 15+) rating and is sold sealed.
  • Muse appeared in the first season of the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again (2025), portrayed by Hunter Doohan, tying the comic's publication closely to a major MCU television release.
