Daughters of the Dragon #1
Daughters of the Dragon #1 is the first issue of the first-ever self-titled solo comic series headlined by Misty Knight and Colleen Wing, two characters who had spent nearly thirty years as perennial supporting players in Iron Fist and Power Man titles before finally getting top billing. The series reframed the duo as street-level bounty hunters operating through their firm Knightwing Restorations, introducing Celia Ricadonna — a crime lord hiding behind a publishing empire — as their primary antagonist and one of Marvel's more distinctive new female villains of the mid-2000s. Beyond its standalone significance, issue #1 functions as the narrative and creative blueprint for the 2006 Heroes for Hire relaunch: the style, the rogues' gallery, and many of the plots established here carried directly into that ongoing series.

The series was written by the frequent collaborators Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti, with pencils by Khari Evans (who also inked alongside Palmiotti), colors by Christina Strain, and lettering by Dave Lanphear — making it a relatively compact creative unit. It was published under a Parental Advisory rating, signaling a deliberately gritty, street-level tone that Gray and Palmiotti rooted in the blaxploitation and kung fu exploitation aesthetics of the characters' 1970s origins. The miniseries ran to six issues (January–July 2006, cover-dated March–August 2006) and was collected in full as the trade paperback Daughters of the Dragon: Samurai Bullets later that same year.
