The third chapter of Hennie Vaessen's Dutch historical graphic novel series brings us "Adelaar en Pegasus" — Eagle and Pegasus — continuing this ground-level look at the Battle of Arnhem in September 1944. The cover sets a vivid tone: a central painted image of paratroopers descending through smoky, battle-torn skies is framed against a warm rust-red background, with sketched soldiers advancing through fire and smoke along the bottom edge. Vaessen's work as both artist and inker, with coloring by Studio Vaessen, gives this 2013 volume a distinctive blend of painted intensity and traditional comic craft that does justice to one of the war's most dramatic episodes.
