Dixie Dugan visits a wishing well farm and encounters rural characters who mishear her requests, leading to comedic misunderstandings when they ask for buttermilk instead of understanding her wishes. Later, artist Mike Angelo invites Dixie to his studio and asks her to accompany him while he leaves his business in the care of Miss Mackey, but Dixie's mother insists on chaperoning before allowing her to go. In a separate story, Dixie organizes a leap-year party where girls invite boys, and her niece Imogene reluctantly asks a boy named Willie to attend after some persuasion from Dixie and her aunt.
