The third volume of Clarke and Turk's Docteur Bonheur series invites readers to "Bonheurland," and the cover makes the destination look equal parts thrilling and chaotic — a red locomotive barrels forward with an eccentric, wild-eyed character at the helm, while a crowd of bewildered passengers and a looming theme park backdrop (complete with Ferris wheel, roller coaster, and a lurking vulture overhead) set the tone perfectly. Clarke and Turk pack an enormous amount of comic energy into every corner of the image, balancing slapstick mayhem with the unmistakable warmth of French-Belgian bande dessinée. If the first two volumes charmed you, this 2009 Le Lombard entry looks ready to deliver more of the same cheerful, gleefully unhinged fun.
