An anthology issue containing multiple stories. "Pretty Ugly" follows Jerry Tyler, who after 20 coats of chrome and customization work on his car, takes it out for a high-speed drive where he encounters Harry's Creamer and ends up at a dragstrip. The story depicts Jerry's encounter with an elegantly dressed couple who mock his vehicle's appearance and suggest he park it outside the dragstrip, leading to a confrontation about the car's value. In another story, two characters work together to steal cash from a Fiat-Ford to fund modifications to a Dodge, and a month later they complete construction of a dragster cage with twin-chutes and other racing equipment, displaying their finished project to onlookers.

Jerry Tyler has poured his heart into building the perfect street rod—twenty coats of lacquer, chromed and customized to perfection—only to watch his girlfriend swoon over Moldy Harry's beat-up dragster instead. Desperate to win her back, Jerry makes a reckless decision: he'll trade in his polished creampuff, scavenge parts from a junkyard, and build himself a true screamer that'll leave Harry in the dust. What emerges from weeks of cutting and welding is something nobody expected—a bizarre, awkward contraption that looks like it shouldn't run at all, let alone fly down the strip.
