A young man, frustrated after narrowly losing a drag race to his rival Boland, teams up with the eccentric mechanic Bug-Eye to build a custom dragster from a 1923 Ford roadster and a Chrysler Hemi engine. As they construct the high-powered machine, their bond grows, and despite a near-disaster during their first run—when they forget to install the parachute—they eventually achieve a record-breaking 8.73-second quarter-mile time.

Ken King, falsely accused of sabotaging his friend Jerry Gerard to win a race, must earn $15,000 to clear his name—but with no one willing to let him race, he turns to Cannonball Carter’s Thrill Circus, where he’s offered a dangerous stunt: the infamous Terror Tube, a feat that once killed the legendary Lucky Lujack. As crowds gather to see the most hated racer in motorsports attempt the deadly act, Ken faces his greatest challenge yet—proving he’s more than his reputation.
