Dune: House Corrino #2
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeDune: House Corrino #2 is a significant chapter in BOOM! Studios' multi-year project to give the entire Prelude to Dune novel trilogy a visual life in comics — the first time any of these three prequel novels had ever been adapted into sequential art. As the second installment of the concluding volume in that trilogy, this issue deepens the political machinery driving the Dune universe toward its canonical breaking point, weaving together the fates of the Fremen, House Harkonnen, House Atreides, and the Bene Gesserit in a single 33-page oversized chapter. Critically, it brings the comic-page version of Tyros Reffa — the illegitimate, exiled half-brother of Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV — to prominence, a character whose tragic arc (genocide employed to cover an imperial assassination attempt) is central to what makes the House Corrino novel so dramatically rich. Its release also landed during the height of the Dune franchise's cultural resurgence, timed alongside the theatrical run of Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two.

The comic adaptation of House Corrino was announced in December 2023 as the capstone of a years-long collaboration between BOOM! Studios, Brian Herbert, and Kevin J. Anderson to translate the 'Prelude to Dune' trilogy — novels originally published between 1999 and 2001 — into illustrated form. That effort began with a 12-issue Dune: House Atreides series in 2020–2021, continued with a 12-issue Dune: House Harkonnen run in 2023, and culminated in the eight-issue House Corrino series, which launched March 20, 2024. The same core creative team from the later Harkonnen issues carried over: the original novel's authors Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson scripted directly from their own source material, artist Simone Ragazzoni (previously known for Power Rangers Universe) provided pencils and inks, Dan Jackson colored, and Ed Dukeshire lettered. Senior Editor Shantel LaRocque oversaw the series at BOOM!, and the novel itself — which debuted at #8 on the New York Times Best Seller list in 2001 — drew on notes left behind by Frank Herbert after his death.
Trivia · 8 facts
- Published April 24, 2024 by BOOM! Studios (NOT 2025 — see flagged section); the prompt's year appears to be an error.
- Written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, the original authors of the 2001 source novel; art by Simone Ragazzoni; colors by Dan Jackson; letters by Ed Dukeshire.
- Issue #2 is part of an eight-issue limited series — each issue running 33 oversized pages — making it one of the most page-generous single issues in the Dune comics line.
- The issue centers on Tyros Reffa, the illegitimate bastard son of Emperor Elrood Corrino IX and half-brother to Shaddam IV, living in exile on Zanovar; this is his sustained comic-page debut as a protagonist figure, with Emperor Shaddam moving to eliminate him while genocide is used to mask the imperial assassination plot.
- Simultaneous multi-planet storylines span Zanovar, Castle Caladan (where Duke Leto Atreides and Lady Jessica's relationship is strained by her absence), Kaitain, Ix (where Tleilaxu synthetic spice research continues), and Arrakis (where Fremen resistance builds against House Harkonnen).
- Main cover is by Raymond Swanland (Magic: The Gathering); variant covers are by Veronica Fish (Blackwood), Miguel Mercado (Grim), and Aaron Campbell.
- This issue is included in the first collected trade paperback of the series (Dune: House Corrino Vol. 1), which gathers issues #1–3 and was released December 3, 2024.
- The series of which this issue is a part represents the final chapter in BOOM!'s complete comic adaptation of the Prelude to Dune trilogy, a project spanning roughly four years (2020–2024) across three separate miniseries totaling 32 issues.
