Elektra by Peter Milligan, Larry Hama & Mike Deodato Jr.: The Complete Collection #[nn]
In "Afraid of the Dark," Peter Milligan and Mike Deodato Jr. deliver a tense, emotionally charged chapter in Elektra’s story, where a fragile moment of connection between Matt and Elektra is tested by a harrowing encounter at a prison. As they face a samurai warrior seeking death, their differing views on honor and mercy create a rift that echoes long after the fight ends. The issue’s haunting atmosphere and nuanced character work are brought to life by Deodato Jr.’s striking visuals and a cover by Deodato Jr. and Deodato Studios.

Romantic feelings spark for Matt and Elektra. They agree to meet at a statue at a certain time. If either wants out they can do so, but if they meet it means they stay together, whatever it costs. But before that, they battle an old man trained as a samurai who's on a killing spree at a prison, hoping someone will kill him in return. When beaten, the old man asks to be allowed to perform ritual suicide. Matt wants to take him to the authorities, but Elektra feels she must honor the old man's request. The difference drives a wedge between Matt and Elektra and neither returns to the statue.
