“Menace's Tale”

In "Menace's Tale," Mr. Menace recounts his origins aboard a space shuttle, revealing how his real name—Dennis Menace—was tied to a dangerous experiment with the matrix gene at UCLA. As he shares the story with his partner Darkwind, the past comes alive: his transformation, the tragic death of Dr. Ludwig, and the moment his powers turned deadly. Just as the memories unfold, Vortex and Electron arrive, cutting short the confession and setting the stage for a tense confrontation. Written and illustrated by Sherman Burnett, with inks and letters by Dan O'Connor, and a cover by Dan O'Connor, this 1989 Firebird Press issue offers a chilling origin story with a high-stakes present.

On a trip over the Pacific Ocean in a space shuttle, Mr. Menace talks with his partner Darkwind, relating to him his origin. He recalls how he met Dr. Ludwig at UCLA and worked with him on the matrix gene. Menace, whose real name was Dennis Menace, volunteered to be the test subject. But when he acquired superhuman strength as a result of the experiment, he killed Dr. Ludwig. Vortex and Electron show up on board the shuttle to interrupt Menace's reminiscing.
