Escapade #28

Jan 1965 · Edi-Europ
“Soucis de jeune fille.”

In "Soucis de jeune fille," young secretary Sophie finds herself caught in a web of secrets after her boss is accused of murder—only to discover the truth is far more tangled than she imagined. A 1965 issue from Edi-Europ, this story unfolds with quiet tension as Sophie’s loyalty is tested, and a seemingly innocent art object hides a dangerous secret. The typeset lettering adds to the period's distinctive feel, grounding the mystery in a world where appearances are deceiving.

Sophie works as a secretary in a shop that deals in art objects. After three months, she falls in love with her boss, but he is worried about money problems and she hears a client threaten him when the intercom is left on. One night, Sophie finds her boss leaning over the blackmailer's body in the shop. He tells her it was in self-defense and pleads with her not to tell the police. She covers for him and later retrieves the statuette used to hit the blackmailer. But the man was not dead and she was being used by both men to help smuggle diamonds hidden in the statuette.
