This is an anthology of fairy tales for young readers. "The Parrot from Timbuctoo" follows Tom the Tinker and his parrot Pym as they travel the roads; when a sailor offers to buy Pym, Tom tricks the man by dyeing the parrot's feathers red, then an old woman follows the sailor, planning to claim the reward offered by a prince for the parrot's return. "Belinda and the Magic Jug," by Vera Caradine, tells of a girl who receives a magical Toby jug from her grandmother that comes to life as a tiny man, causing mischief around the house and garden until Belinda manages to stop him. "Spengella and the Giant" depicts a brave girl who encounters a city ruled by a giant; she manages to save herself and help others by using her wits and magic.
