Baron Wolf von Rappel är besatt av att återuppväcka sin döda fästmö Emma. Han får för sig att det är Fantomens dödskallering gör honom odödlig – att det egentligen är den mytomspunna De Vises Sten – och gillrar en fälla i Kairo för att stjäla ringen. Därefter tar baronen med sig en kidnappad flicka till en hemlig gravkammare i den stora pyramiden för att genomföra en ceremoni som ska ge Emma livet åter. Planen misslyckas och baronen får plikta med livet när gravkammaren rasar in.
