"The Enemy" depicts a World War II naval conflict in which an American submarine crew battles enemy forces after suffering damage from depth charges. Following explosions that flood compartments and injure personnel, the captain and crew must navigate their crippled vessel while Japanese forces wait above to attack as they surface. Meanwhile, a parallel storyline shows an aging pilot named Lane who warns younger pilots about the dangers of combat, having survived a German pilot's stunt years earlier; Lane is subsequently called to field headquarters for a dangerous mission involving delivering arms to trapped British commandos on the Dutch coast, requiring him to fly with minimal air support against overwhelming German opposition.
