A soldier named Alan struggles with self-doubt during his first combat experience in the mountains near Mt. Yukosi, fearing he may be unfit for battle. When enemy forces attack unexpectedly, Alan overcomes his hesitation and fights alongside his buddy George, using ammunition and gunfire to help repel the assault. After the skirmish, exhausted but emboldened, Alan and George build a small fire and plan their escape, eventually receiving orders to scout ahead ten miles to determine the enemy's positions as their unit prepares to push further back toward Mt. Yukosi.
