Film Fun #1540 is an anthology comic featuring three comedy stories based on film stars and characters. "Laurel & Hardy: Out for the Count" depicts Stan suffering from insomnia while attempting to count sheep, with Ollie's well-meaning suggestions only making matters worse, culminating in a chaotic search for the missing Stan. "Frank Randle: Famous Star of Mancunian Films" follows Frank's disastrous attempt at a round of golf, where his incompetence and misunderstandings of the rules lead to numerous mishaps both on the course and at the clubhouse. "Abbott & Costello: Stars of Universal Pictures" shows Bud and Lou attempting to help their friend by framing a painting, but their efforts result in chaos when art critics and others become involved, ultimately landing the picture in an inappropriate location. "Joe E. Brown: The Famous Fellow of the Films" features Joe becoming infatuated with a writer named Daphne and attempting various schemes to win her heart, including an unsuccessful overnight vigil outside her home.
