First Love Illustrated #10
In "I Sinned Against Love!", a 1951 gem from Harvey, Jasmine finds herself caught between heart and class during a stormy visit to the Deep South. Drawn to a young man she believes is a poor trapper, her feelings clash with her upbringing—until a flood forces her to confront her true feelings in a moment of crisis. Lee Elias handles both art and inks for the heartfelt interior, while Al Avison’s cover captures the story’s emotional tension.

Jasmine is visiting wealthy friends in the Deep South and meets a young man she thinks is a poor trapper. They fall in love but she can’t imagine living as a member of the poverty-stricken class. During a flood, Jasmine and her brother Tony are stranded in a house with a poor family and the trapper. Since their lives are in danger, Jasmine admits she loves him. When they’re rescued, Jasmine discovers the “trapper” is Rod, a rich landowner and “famous aviator,” so he’s socially acceptable after all.
