A man named Harvey encounters a primitive tribe and proposes an ingenious plan to help them defend against their enemies by teaching them how to build powerful weapons modeled after ancient Roman technology. As the tribe eagerly constructs these new weapons under Harvey's direction, he becomes revered as a leader and wonder-worker, but his influence and the tribe's newly acquired military capability soon attract unwanted attention from rival warriors who launch an attack. The story explores themes of intervention and unintended consequences as Harvey's well-meaning assistance transforms the tribe's fortunes in ways that prove double-edged.
