Frank Buck captures a fierce tiger to protect a village in N'Gessa Land, using drugged smoke to render the beast unconscious before caging it. When the tiger's mother attempts to rescue her cub, a village elder claims the small tiger as compensation, declaring he will raise it himself alongside his own son. Frank Buck later encounters a water buffalo menaced by tigers and a young woman named Fallis, whom he rescues during a harrowing escape down a river where he is swept away from her grasp.
