Freckles and his friends plan a fancy dinner and dance at the Riviera Blue Room, but their budget falls far short—so they improvise with a series of clever (and mostly dishonest) schemes to raise the money. When a mix-up at the restaurant leads to a wildly inflated bill, Freckles is forced to face the consequences, leaving him and his friends stranded with no car and a long walk home.

Freckles is in trouble after accidentally paying a dinner check for his friend, leading to his car being repossessed. When he tracks down the culprit, a prankster named Danny Culpert, he confronts him and learns the truth — but instead of revenge, Freckles chooses forgiveness and sets out to revive his beloved jalopy.

Freckles is left reeling when his best girl, June, seems to fall for an older man—Captain Embley—after he gives her a ride. As Freckles grapples with jealousy, he discovers the truth behind the captain’s exaggerated tales and the surprising reason June’s interest cooled.

Freckles is surprised when his friend Selwyn Pettibone, an English exchange student, arrives at his house, bringing with him a refined, formal way of speaking that baffles the local teens. As the boys try to keep up with Selwyn’s polished speech, Freckles’ family and friends react with playful confusion—especially when they learn Selwyn’s favorite dish is pâté de foie gras, which leads to a hilarious misunderstanding about a "small southern dish."

Freckles and his friends launch the Shadyside House-Cleaning Company, turning their makeshift vacuum cleaner into a chaotic but inventive business. When their overly powerful machine causes wild mishaps at clients’ homes, they scramble to save the day — and their reputation — before their latest customer demands they stop cleaning altogether.
